Board of Trustees

Lissa Barrett, Chair, served as President of the Jr. League of Montclair-Newark, Treasurer of the United Way of North Essex, Treasurer and Finance Chair of the Garden Club of Montclair.  She also served as Chair of the Van Vleck Board of Management, Vice-Chair of The Montclair Foundation, and Treasurer of the Van Vleck House & Gardens Capital Campaign.

Janice Benton served on the Board of Management of VVH&G as chair of PR/Marketing and chair of Strategic Marketing.  Janice has served on the boards of the Junior League of Montclair/Newark and the Junior League of London.  She also served as a board member of The Garden Club of Montclair, The Salvation Army, and Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.

Andree Bertsche is a broker-associate with Stanton Company Realtors.  She has been an active community volunteer for many years, having served as a trustee of numerous community non-profits.  Her interests include travel, golf, gardening, and her grandchildren.

John Butler is a senior industry analyst with Bloomberg LP, covering the U.S. Telecommunications services & equipment sector as well as the mobile handset industry. Prior to his career in financial services, Mr. Butler was a manager in the Corporate Finance Group at Time Warner, Inc. and media planner for J. Walter Thompson advertising.

Alexis Davis

George Derrick is a civil engineer with more than 40 years as a principal owner of Langan Engineering and Environmental  Services specializing in land development and geotechnical engineering. With a passion for golf he has served on the Board of Trustees of the Montclair Golf Club serving as its Green Chairman and Construction Chairman for its most recent clubhouse renovation.  George graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering 1967 and Cornell University with a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering 1969. George is a 40 year resident of Montclair.  He and his wife, Margaret, have two children and several grandchildren.

Roger Dolden was born in the United Kingdom and holds a degree in sociology, as well as being a Certified Chartered Accountant in the UK and a CPA in the US.  He has had an extensive international business career, most recently in the US, heading up Finance and then Business Development for L’Oreal in the Americas.

Doug Ewertsen is a Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo Insurance Services.

Emer Featherstone, Treasurer  is owner of River Meadow Associates, a financial services firm providing financial organization, portfolio management, bookkeeping, tax preparation and building management services to businesses, private and non-profit clients.  Until retiring in 2010, she had been the Chief Financial Officer of Programs for Parents, a Newark based child subsidy agency distributing approximately seventy-five million dollars annually in Essex County.  Emer is currently a Trustee of Partners for Health Foundation and sits on their Audit and Trusteeship Committees.  She is the Vice Chair of the Van Vleck Board of Management.  Past community service includes being a Trustee of Bloomfield College, past President of the Junior League of Montclair-Newark, President and Founder of South End Day Care, Inc., and board service as a member or Trustee of The Center for Hospice Care, Inc., New Jersey Chamber Music Society, United Way of North Essex, YWCA Montclair, Association for Children of New Jersey and the Mayor’s Committee on the Environment.

Deborah Jeanne Hirsch enjoyed a 20 year career in theatre and television as a member of Actor’s Equity, Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA. She served at the Montclair Art Museum on the Board as Volunteer President, chairing several fundraisers. She also served on the Board of HOMEcorp and in April she began training as a Hospice volunteer for St. Barnabas.

Heather McCutcheon Hitchcock

Tina Jordan became an active community volunteer after a career as a litigator at Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman and Dicker LLP.  She has served as chair of the board for Partners for Women and Justice and is currently the chair of their fundraising committee as well as the vice president of the executive committee.  She also serves on the board of the Parents Association of MKA.

Diana Kostas is a seasoned sales and finance executive with experience building, managing and leading teams. She is currently employed as a Regional Sales Director for Doncaster at Tanner Companies. She has ten years of corporate finance experience in both the publishing and computer industry and actively volunteers for Essex County CASA, Montclair Hockey Club and Glen Ridge Home & School Association.

Karen Montgomery has over 30 years of investment experience.  She is presently employed at Williams Jones and Company, an investment counsel firm in New York City.  Prior to her current position, Karen was a principal at Bessemer Trust Co., where she managed a client book of $1 billion in assets.

Richmond Rabinowitz is President and Founder of Rabinowitz Partners and has over 25 years of experience in senior level management for both nonprofit and government organizations. She was also the founding Executive Director of the Montclair Public Library Foundation and has served on several boards including the Junior League of Montclair Newark, and the Human Needs Food Pantry.

Marisabel R. Raymond was President of the Board of Management of Van Vleck House & Gardens and Vice Chair of the Montclair Foundation from 2001 to 2007. She currently chairs the VVH&G Capital Campaign.  She is a past-President of the Junior League of Montclair-Newark and on the Board of Senior Care.  She has also served on Montclair Kimberley Academy’s Board of Trustees and is a past-President of their Parents Association.

Paul Sionas

Karen Turner moved to Montclair in 1995 with her husband, Chris Turner.  Since moving to Montclair, Karen has been a committed volunteer for causes to help improve the Montclair Community and the lives of children at risk.  Karen is currently Treasurer at the Montclair Golf club.  She was a mayoral candidate in the recent Montclair Township municipal election, Chairperson on Montclair’s Operating Budget Advisory Committee and a founding member of the Concerned Citizens of Montclair.  She has been President, Finance Executive and Endowment Vice President with the Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc.  She has also served as Treasurer and through a variety of hands on volunteer work with other non-profit organizations in the community.  In her professional career, Karen was a Certified Public Accountant and practiced at KPMG, LLP in New York City in both the Audit and International Tax departments.  Karen and Chris have two daughters, Mary Kate and Paisley.

Aubin Ames

Brenda Bingham is a former Vice Chair of the Van Vleck House & Gardens Board of Management. A Master Gardener, she serves on the boards of the Montclair Garden Club and the Garden Club of New Jersey, and is a National Garden Club Master Judge. She is a past President of the Montclair Art Museum.

George R. Harris was the first Chairman of The Montclair Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a past President of The Montclair Kimberley Academy Board of Trustees and a past President and former Trustee of the Schumann Fund for New Jersey. He currently serves as Chairman of the Jackson Hole Institute, Chair of the Coalition for Educational Freedom as well as board member of Excellent Education for Everyone(E3).

John R. Helm (dec.) has served on The Montclair Foundation Board of Trustees for over a decade and was a founding member of the Van Vleck House & Gardens Board of Management. He has volunteered with Senior Care and Activities Center, COPE Counseling Center and the Montclair Red Cross.

Jacqueline McMullen is one of the original members of the Van Vleck House & Gardens Board of Management. A long-time resident of Montclair, she serves on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and is a former trustee of the Montclair Art Museum, where she also serves as Chair of the Women’s Committee.

Anne E. Westerman is one of Howard Van Vleck’s twelve grandchildren and provides a liaison between the Van Vleck family and The Montclair Foundation and Van Vleck House & Gardens. A resident of Southbury, Connecticut, she serves on the board of Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust in nearby Woodbury.
