Garden to Table

 January 18th, March 8th, April 5th

4:00  – 5:30 pm

This three-part series will teach children about gardening, nutrition and the importance of eating locally, as they harvest produce from the Edible Garden and prepare food with it. There will also be time to journal about the experience in the Van Vleck gardens.  

Fee (per class): $15 per child for Members/$20 per child for General Public.

Series Rate: $40 Members/$55 General Public (includes all 3 classes).

Spend a Saturday morning at Van Vleck!   An environmental educator will be on-hand at the Van Vleck Education Center from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to discuss various topics relating to nature in and around the gardens.  The program includes a simple craft and supplies for a self-guided activity on the property—all the tools you need for a fun, family excursion. Classes are designed for children ages 4 and up; however, all are welcome.  All children must be supervised by an adult. Rain or shine.

$5 per child ages 4 & up; $10 per family (2 or more children)

Garden Discoveries Pre-K Program

Calling all future naturalists! Each class in this monthly series examines a different nature-themed topic through stories, outdoor exploration, specimens and hands-on activities, designed to inspire kids about the natural world around them. Rain or shine. Open to children  3-5 years old accompanied by an adult.

$7 per child for Members, $10 per child for General Public.

Garden Tales

5 Mondays, May 13th – June 17th (no class 5/27)

4:15-5:30 pm

In this class, children will learn about gardening and nature as they acquire basic gardening skills, taste some of the veggies grown in the Edible Garden, and explore the grounds on nature hikes. Each week’s class center centers around a garden-themed book and participants receive a take home gardening project related to the story. Registration required. Open to children in grades K through 2.

Fee: $50 for Members, $75  for General Public (includes all 5 classes).

Junior Gardeners

5 Fridays,  May 10th – June 14th (no class 5/24)

4:30-5:45 pm

This hands-on class introduces children to the joy of gardening. Students will grow vegetables, plant flowers, learn about composting and observe the natural world around them at Van Vleck. The class will include nature hikes and journaling—the perfect way for kids to get outside and get dirty!  Registration required. Open to children in grades 3 through 6.

Fee: $50 for Members, $75 for General Public (includes all 5 classes).
